Re: Tubs for 2.5+ kg

Most people graduate to cages after this. Some imported tubs are large enough.

Re: Scorpion law - Keeping,breeding,selling

There are a list of species that are protected and you may not keep them without a permit. These are known as TOPS species. Depending on the province, other indigenous scorpions may be kept and bred with no restrictions. Some provinces are more strict. You are allowed to keep all species which are n...

Re: Northern Cape January 2016 Creature Feature (many pictur

Makes me want to undergo another field trip. However the carefree days are over. Worrying about the locals and then the farmers suspecting you of poaching makes it something I doubt I will ever get to do again. Being held at gun point is not something I want to go through again.

Re: Looking for a leopard tortoise

The rules are drawn up by Nature Conservation so they will eventually decide what they require in each case.

Re: The Mamba with 9 Lives ***(WARNING : GRAPHIC IMAGES)***

Damn that sucks. At least the snake is not going to be so compromised that it would lead a sad life until it died from malnutrition and recurring infections. At least you gave it your best shot and got a professional involved to make the final call. At least it was not in vain and hopefully the next...

Re: Cages for hedgehogs?

They require a decent ventilation and heat as they do not handle cold very well. Research them and you can also contact http://www.hedgiehutsouthafrica.com for help.

Re: Beardie Acting strange

Putting him in the sun behind glass serves ZERO purpose. He is supposed to be in the sun under mesh of some sort so that he can get direct sunlight (UV) on his skin. Build him a cage out of a sturdy frame (wood, aluminium etc) with shade cloth or mesh around it and put him in the sun for a few hours...

Re: Modification to rack system

Those are great modifications. Doing it yourself costs a lot less than having them put into a custom build. You also have the advantage of knowing exactly how the wiring was done so that you dont have to guess in future.

Re: Where to buy and permits

I saw two for sale recently. They are on the market from time to time. I have a suspicion that they are not allowed in Western Cape. Contact Capenature before you go to the trouble of trying to track one down.

Re: Indigenous snakes for education

You need to make contact with Micheal Burmeister who is a conservation officer in the Eastern Cape. He would be able to help you with advice and possibly even arrange to get species you require.

Re: Outdoor Monitor Encloure

Clearvue have a mesh which is meant to survive being underground. That will not rust and might be a viable option. Chat to a local installer and get offcuts and just put it around the edges of the cage. They seldom start digging in the middle of the cage.

Re: Ophiophagus Cobras and other elapids

I have pictures of a Black mamba eating boas and ball pythons. The same applies to snouted cobras, rinkhals and boomslang too. I will try to post them.

Re: Garter Snakes Wanted

I will have some at the expo. Normals and one or two albinos. All are eating pinks or pinky prats so no frogs or fish required.
