Indian or Laboratory Stick Insect

I found one of the above at my work in the middle of Sandton! Are they common around Joburg? Or could it be an escapee? Its missing 1 leg on its left and the other left leg is tiny obviously also from losing a leg at some stage I've got it setup in a small 1 foot tank with very fine mesh over the to...

I have tattoos but as far as handling venomous snakes goes its not something I would do. I don't think I have the concentration skills to be able to do it safely :-)
