Re: SA Releases Exotic Bug to Control Invasive Plant

Westley the sad reality is by us bringing these alien plants into the country we have created a problem already and yes I agree biological control has it's faults as has been proven if not done correctly. But by us creating the problem we are obligated to find solutions to it to protect our heritage...

Re: SA Releases Exotic Bug to Control Invasive Plant

I feel compelled to comment on this as I deal directly with alien plant control. To me this is great news as already mentioned in the previous comment South Africa has one of the best track records for introducing biological control agents. This is definitely not the first and not the last, with the...

Re: Creature Feature (many pictures)

Ryan guessing you were helping out with WEI at Welgevonden? some very nice finds there, I was hoping to use your photo of the Psammophis brevirostris ? believe it or not but that's the first photo I've seen of the species on the reserve and that now confirms it occurs here and I'll add it to the gro...

Re: Waterberg, Limpopo, South Africa

The Snouted Night Adder find was quite a surprise as I've been working on updating and improving the reptile and amphibian list. By first creating a "potential" list using SARCA records and then using the current list and comparing, then trying to confirm as many as the unconfirmed species...

Re: Waterberg, Limpopo, South Africa

Hi Andre I did initially identify as Ichnotropis squamulosa not capensis but was revised on ispot check the link: http://www.ispot.org.za/node/186616 let me know your thoughts, that would be one more species for the reserves list :)

Waterberg, Limpopo, South Africa

First off I would like to apologise for my inactivity in the year on the forum. Re: Save Our Sungazers Campaign

This is a great cause to be hearing of :) I believe the endangered wildlife trust has/had a initiative going for the Sungazers not sure what's happening with it now. But the aim was to educate farmers who have populations on their properties about the plight as well as sustainable practices in which...

Re: Bad news. (studies)

Hi Kennyakagera as Jamster has already mentioned the NMMU Nature Conservation course is a great option. I'm currently in my 2nd year at Saasveld (George Campus) studying the Nature Conservation course. I highly recommend it if nature and the outdoors is your passion. We have very well respected lect...

Re: Chamelion on the river side

Yep definitely a Knysna Dwarf Chameleon B.damaranum very common in that area where they prefer forest habitat. The only other species that you'll get close to the distribution of B.damaranum is the little karoo dwarf chameleon B.gutturale which is more dull in colouration and smaller in size compare...

Re: Painting my Cages.

Hi I would reccommend lead free acrylic paint, but before you paint be sure to roughen the melamine as I've found it peels very easily especially if not 100% dry.
