Re: Setting up a Crocodile Farm

OK, let me give it descriptive try - I think others reading here will be benefiting from that themselves. - Plot in area north of Pretoria. +4ha - Boorhole, potentially rights to take from river or channel. - Operational area for crocodiles less then one ha for heat house, processing facility, cold ...

Re: golith birdeaters

Is T. blondi called an Goliath birdeater? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goliath_birdeater They are rare enough that countries like Germany are still importing WC animals. Beware of name or colour hunting with T's. Best to go with something that is 3cm shorter and doesn't take 8 yrs to mature. It see...

Re: South African Leopard Tortoise

Leopard tortoises .... Leopard tortoise do not eat live food unlike some other local species such as Hinged back tortoises. They do eat animal droppings (especially of carnivores) searching for calcium. Apparently extra animal protein causes pyramiding in leopard tortoises. Leopard tortoises can sw...

Found some husbandry info on fresh water crocodiles and thought I share it here: http://nswfmpa.org/Husbandry%20Manuals/Published%20Manuals/Reptilia/Fresh%20Water%20Crocodile.pdf Nile crocodiles should be similar as they are from the same genus. I wonder, if it is possible to farm alligators in Sout...

Re: Setting up a Crocodile Farm

You mean the Environmental Impact Assessment? Yes I heard about that. Crocodile farming is basically aquaculture. And they are interested especially in the dams for the juvenile to grown up crocodiles. I also heard you basically need a permit for rearing crocodiles, transporting crocodiles and a sep...

Re: Setting up a Crocodile Farm

Thanks, If I recall it rightly the first sale is after three to four years. Not sure, if that pays off the input cost immediately, would have to do the calculation. Permits are an issue and I'd like to know, which are required let's say in the Transvaal area. As for facilities I see: - Heat house - ...

Re: OVER FEEDING?

Speaking from a boa perspective and not about smaller snakes. I feed every one to two weeks a couple of mice. I keep it small to avoid to fast growth and ensure that she's always hungry - I had cases that she rejected food in the past, which may have related to overfeeding.
