Ouvolk, as you said black throats are just a sub species. the main difference is they get much larger compared to white throats (the local albigularis species As for everyone saying how monitors should only be kept by experienced keepers.... they require A LOT less maintenance than an iguana...iguan...

Yes, personal preference rules. Experience counts more than anything. At the end of the day you could also use a tree branch, i prefer Jacaranda trees!

Other than puff adders or gaboon adders out here... U-shaped hook is not favourable. For Crotes it's fine but elapids sit nicer on a v shape hook.

veld iguana still makes me laugh.... the picture is also wrong for iguana....and monitor( looks like a Calotes sp.) . Amazing how accurate the news is....
