Its not advisable as you could give your snake "food poisoning".
I have made that mistake once, and lost a very valuable snake because of it.

You should only use a small amount, like a few slivers in a jar.
Seal the rest up to be used again at a later stage.
Remove the water bowls whilst you are treating.
Wash out all cages, wash snakes and vacuum the room, walls, curtains thoroughly.
Replace substrate.

I agree. I had not heard of these two until the show aired. It is rather silly, but is not meant for us learned snake folk... Its designed to be entertaining to the general ignorant public that watch shows like Swamp People and all the other trash aired on Nat Geo. Throw in some snakes, some tattoos...

That's usually caused by a previous injury or damaged scale and is a form of scarring. It may disappear after a few sheds or may remain there for ever. Obviously if it starts getting worse or spreading you will need to take it to a vet. You can try soaking it in warm water, those bits might come off...
