Re: Rinhals

A much better article: http://www.citypress.co.za/news/man-tells-snake-car-nightmare-gautrain-station/ News24 misquoted The Times twice already during this saga (although they also did not have all of their facts straight). As I understand it, Gautrain had no reason to believe that the snake was sti...

Re: New Draft Gauteng Legislation

They got a bit of a hiding! In the words of BV: "WE WON THE FIRST ROUND. The message was that this draft Nature Conservation Bill was going to be passed and we were just being informed. Then they said we could make written comments and then after I stated a few facts and had the support of many...

Re: Permits needed for all exotics in South Africa?

I am glad to hear that! Although I would like to keep some horned toads and poison arrow frogs.. Who sets up these "blacklists" anyway? I would love to know why Hemidactylus mabouia is on the invasive list (yes, I know they are invasive in Gauteng, but they occur naturally in KZN). Will th...

Permits needed for all exotics in South Africa?

I was searching for blacklisted species of reptiles and mammals in South Africa and came across the following: "The government published a set of regulations on 19 July 2013 which affect gardeners, pet enthusiasts and property owner across the country. The regulations are related to the Nationa...

Re: To all Potential Venomous snake enthusiasts

I know this thread is a bit old, but I do like it and I'd like to add to it. What I hate is that there is a lot of information going about that is perceived the wrong way by inexperienced people. For example, there are a few posts talking about White-lips and Copperheads as okay "starter hots&q...

Re: Odd frog?

Ah, the eyes do seem a bit far apart for a Common River Frog (I just had a look at virtual museum records) and the snout does seem a bit paler than the rest of the body (with a broad dark band separating the pale nose and the rest of the body). Someone please tell me if my approach is wrong. I will ...

Re: Odd frog?

The ridges on the back seem to be broken, suggesting that is indeed a river frog. Given the location, stripey legs and dorsal blotches, my best bet is a Common River Frog (Amieta angolensis).

Re: Urgent help needed - Bearded dragon

It is truely heart-warming to read how much effort you are putting into this! (Insert applause here!) I have seen some horrifying neglect and abuse to reptiles and I have rescued a number of snakes, of which a few ended up dying from septicemia (live rats and boas don't mix well). I wish all reptile...

Cream that may buy time for snake bite victims

Good afternoon, The following article was brought to my attention today and I think that this might be very handy information. Unfortunately I do not have access to 'Nature Medicine', so I haven't been able to get hold of the original article yet, but I am hoping someone out there can access this ar...
