Quickly, I'd say that as a rule, nigrita would be almost black even as babies...Of course there are many with some light speckling and some with patterns reminiscent of a splendida , but nigra would have some pattern more closely resembling an eastern king, especially on the belly. Black kings L.g. nigra can be a bit more agressive than mex. black kings L.g.nigrita and both can develop very strong feeding responses...espescially if the only time they associate with you it's feeding time... I produced only that one last year from breeding an axanthic het/hypo X a 2xhet/ghost. The axanthic female laid 7 eggs and one was a ghost.

Bushviper, I had fully intended to place latin as well as common names but was called away as I was posting. Rather than lose the pics and start over later, I opted to post the pics and edit later.

Don't know that hybrid would describe it better than "intergrade" and I'm not 100% on the actual genetics either.
Still, a snake like that would be nearly impossible to find in the wild I think...

Actually as I know it, there was hypos and a few normals too in the clutch. The "normal" parents were from his "dream king" line. That as is understood vaguely by me, is (FL king X hypo Brook's X goini) originally bred for the wide bands... but who knows?? At any rate, he's cool ...
