Re: Atheris matildae

There are certain people on this forum who I would trust for such a project. However, with regards to collecting in the wild it will continue as collecting the specimens is half the fun for some groups/individuals. I can quote certain species, Bitis parviocula for example. Even the more common speci...

Re: Midwest 40" Standard Tongs? Your opinion on them?

Thanks (I think) Warren completing one's three score years and ten is a pain when you still do what you were doing when you had completed one score year plus five!!!!!

Re: Snake & Crocodile relocation in KZN

This sounds very wrong to me - what do KZN Wildlife say about this, do they have an input? And why so selective with species? That whole dune ecosystem is delicate. What does the Enviro impact study conclude? I would love to see it. I assume a study was done to include the ecosystem as a whole, if n...

Re: Midwest 40" Standard Tongs? Your opinion on them?

I know you should not speak ill of the dead, but I stayed with Ionides for a while and I have to say he was not the most genrlest of snake-handlers. Yes he did use those tongs but most often he just tapped a gaboon on the head, if it did not respond aggressively then he just picked it up. In Mtwara ...

Re: Emergency options in Cape Peninsula

Those books mentioned are a must and we all have them. But ID can still be a problem- recognising an unhooded cobra, or a baby boomslang from a whipsnake when moving. Also the books do not go deep into habits and behaviour. When is peak activity, climatic influence. Also distribution is a rough guid...

Re: Midwest 40" Standard Tongs? Your opinion on them?

Like Warren says its a personal thing, I used Pilstrom for years but now love my Whitneys.
Then again I don't use them much (not living in mamba country) occasionally getting boomslang out of a roofspace or a cobra out of a swimming pool- the hook stick is no 1 tool.

Re: Photo I've been wanting...

One way to get this shot is after a snake has fed and is adjusting it's jaws. same after a strike for a wild one.
