Advice need on buying

I am looking to buy reptile 1 or more but should I buy from a pet shop Or should I wait till the expo in 2013 ?

Look through the classifieds section and see if there's anything you like that's in your price range. Pet shops obviously have a mark up, so you'd pay more for an animal there, that you would if you bought from a private breeder. However a pet shop provides the convenience of having a wider variety. And waiting for the expo will give you the greatest variety all in one spot.

Ultimately, whether you buy from a private breeder, pet shop or at the expo is completely up to you.

As suggested shop around! We chose our reptile store due to the amount of information they were able to give us on the snakes. We have since gone back for all our substrate and mice and we feel we can trust them which makes things easier.

In my opinion I would rather seek a private breeder. Petstores do have a nice variety yes but then again if you find a reputable breeder you can can basically the same snakes and sometimes for half the price than what the petstores sell theirs for. Well this is the experience I've come to know after purchasing a handful of snakes. For instance a butter corn I bought for R450 I could have bought from a breeder at about R150. You do the math

What has already been mentioned is checking classifieds, usually gumtree and junkmail have a load of snakes on them plus you are able to find breeders pretty quickly. This is the step I've taken to get new pets and seems a lot lighter on the pocket if you have patience checking the net out.
