Dares philippinensis [stick insect]

Dares philippinensis [stick insect]

Hi Guys

Here is another species of phasmid I keep, Dares philippinensis.

They are one of the smaller, but bulkier species, with adult females reaching 50-60mm only. But they are extremely slow growing, which is weird because typically the larger ones are slow growing.

Their small size makes them ideal for a starter phasmid as you can keep them in a faunabox from being born to adult and they are actually quite bulletproof.

Here is a picture of an adult pair from Wikipedia

And here are some of mine. Note the short, stocky appearance when compared to other phasmid species.

Interesting, they don't look like phasmids at all from a distance.
