Spider ID - Bitten

Spider ID - Bitten

Postby calvin22580 » Sat Jan 04, 2014 10:35 am

Hi All,

Could you please help me identify the spider below.

Was at Swellendam, then came home, saw I was bitten the next day, went to the doc and got antibiotics. We know it's venomous as there was a flare (red line) all the way up my arm, from the bite, which was the venom going up my veins.

The day after, (today) we found a spider near our pool. So either it was here all the time or hitched a ride back with us.

Your expert experience would be appreciated. Thanks

P.s Just zoom out or open the images in a new tab to see them full size.

Looks like either a Huntsman or Nursery Web Spider.

Both relatively harmless.

Let's see if anyone has any other ideas.

Can't give you an accurate ID, but can guarantee that its not one of the venomous spiders.
Something else must have bitten you. There are tons of invertebrates like tickes, mites, insects that feed off of human's not to mention bacterial infections from open wounds.
Even a scratch from a dirty fingernail (We all have them) can cause problems.

But back to the point, the spider is definately not the culprit in this case and I would bet that the bite was not from another spider either. :)
