Baby Spotted Python not eating, pls help!

Postby Bianca » Tue Apr 26, 2011 3:29 pm

A friend of mine bought a baby Spotted Python at the Randburg Expo, and it hasn't eaten at all. We force fed it this last weekend but it didn't look as if it was going down too well.

There are no signs of mouth rot or any kind of illness, the snake looks to be in very good condition.

The temps are not controlled yet but he is using a small heating pad on the right side of a small-ish tank. He has all the right equipment such as hides and water bowls etc.

Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if you know what could be the cause of this?

He's really small and we're starting to get very worried. When I had warmed the pinky up and dangled it in front of the snake, it showed interest but after a while just turned away.

I don't have one of these myself so haven't had any experience with this type of snake.

Thanks a lot.

Try a brained pinky then a live pinky and then try tuna water on a pinky. Some of them are difficult to get feeding. Have you tried phoning the seller to find out what it was eating before you got it?

Bianca, didn't you say you have Lygodactylus geckos at your house?

"Borrow" one of their tails and scent a very small pinky with that and try again.
