Is she pregnant or crazy

Is she pregnant or crazy

Postby ekim » Thu Jan 22, 2009 3:17 pm

My Dumerils bred about eight months ago (hard to say as she played hard to get for over a year). I know this behavior might mean shes preganant but then she ate two meduim rats last week? What do you people think as this is my first time breading Dumerils. I hope if she is preggies that the babies are healthy I cant take another bad batch.

Usually when they "roll" like that, it's a sure sign of being gravid.

Mine looks the same, maybe a bit fatter, does the same and also still eats every weekend and she has also not dropped any babies. They says they can have babies as late as March, so just keep an eye on her, it could happen any time.

This year the Dumerils boas seem to be very late. It is not unusual for them to drop as late as March in KZN although here it is often a lot earlier.

Ekim I'm sitting with exactly the same thing, a gravid female Dumeril and no babies. Yours looks gravid to me too.

Well this morning I found 6 live babies and 5 slugs and a much thinner mom in the cage. The babies were shedding already too which indicates to me that the mom was keeping them in her for as long as possible. Weird.

Froot maybe she was waiting for the economy to recover so that her children could go to good homes.

Shedding so soon is very unusual. Now you do not have to wait so long before attempting to feed them. The mommy would appreciate some rats quite soon so lets hope you can get a few for her.

Well done. Now just breed those Sanzinia?

Well done, when my phone rang this morning and I saw your name I just knew there had to be babies. Sad about the slugs.
Now I just hope ekim and my Dumerils will also get it over with.
When last did yours eat, mine still ate on Saturday, 4 small rats only cause there just are no large rats for sale anywhere.

Mittone the mom hasn't eaten since November and I'm going to feed her this week along with the rest of my boas. I've organised frozen rats to be sent up to me via courier that were bought in Port Elizabeth via Tatiana's family and they should be here tomorrow touch wood. I should be able to find mice for the babies - touch wood! I holding thumbs your and Ekim's females give you successful clutches.

BV thank you for helping me look after her while I was away, in return you must come choose a baby.
As for the Sanzinia, that's this year's project. I'll be so stoked if I can breed those.
