People teach their children that this is not only acceptable but the preferred method of dealing with any animal(because it's not only snakes that get this treatment) and then they wonder why they turn out to be psychotic!

What a terrible sight! I'd like to hope that the snake was killed incidently and opened up for research purposes. But I doubt it.

cant you see the sterile environment in which this procedure was undertaken ? The scalpel and note pads LOL . It was probably killed for food (or at least thats what i like to think) still a shame she was gravid though !

I am not sure this was for food. The South Americans are not known for eating snakes. I have a suspicion the snake was just killed because it was a snake.

I truly hope a rat borne disease decends on this village and they all get sick and blind and slowly starve to death.

I count just over 70 babies.

This is really ridiculous poor female, they really don't care about anything. :(
Can anyone estimate her size(length)?

That female was huge. Really tragic. Few things upset me as much, yet it is a harsh reality of the snake fearing society we live in.

It is for reasons like this that I wish that Eunectus rather become a vicious man eating snake. At least they will get some of the score settled before they all get wiped out.

I also recieved this via email with subject line stating it was caught in MT Edgecombe Durban which is definately Bull&%&. That alone shows that uneducated people are trying to instill fear in other uneducated people instead of trying to understand these animals. Most people who know nothing about snakes are not willing to learn or understand them but on the other hand there are some people who are open minded and are willing to at least listen to what you are saying. i have only been keeping snakes for 4 months now and I have gotten at least 5 of my friends and family who are now intrigued and are considering keeping and learning more as well. Reptiles, especially snakes need more media coverage similar to the article that was in the Sunday Times this past weekend.
And God has Created every animal from water, of them are some creeping on their bellies, some walk on two legs, and some on four. God Creates what He wills, for sure God has Power over all things. (Noble Quran 24:45)

Lets try and see this in context though...
Lets not kid ourselves, Anaconda's are formidable creatures to encounter in the wild or even in captivity for that matter. The size of this female is massive, and probably quite capable of taking larger livestock and possibly even youngsters without much effort.
These folk look like a rural bunch and this kind of response to an anaconda is to be expected. As much as it pains us to see something like this... these folk probably don't have access to skilled people on call to remove "Problem reptiles' and relocate them. Cassie says it best - PRIMATIVE and UNEDUCATED
