Rock salt hurts... plenty plenty. Caught some in the but cheek once as I was in mid escape after stealing peaches from a neighbouring farm in the free-state.

Lmao fredsmith, We had it fired at us for nicking mulberries and granadillas. Lucky the tannie was 300 or so and blew a bush to heck thinking we were there. Always pays to have a lookout.
