Eucalyptus mulch - Tree Boas

Eucalyptus mulch - Tree Boas

Postby BRB » Thu Apr 22, 2010 9:05 am

Hi All

I'm getting my first batch (4 little Gremlins) of Tree Boas from Mr Zimmerman in a couple of weeks time.......................... can't wait!!!!

I'm thinking of using Eucalyptus mulch as a substrate, is this advisable or should I just stick to newspaper? I'm worried that the mulch will go mouldy??

Eucalyptus mulch does not absorb as much water as what you would expect. It does hold humidity better than newspaper though. I have never had it going mouldy on me.

That mulch wont go mouldy, as Bushviper said holds humidity nicely and looks a far site better then newspaper.

It doesn't go mouldy, but it does let of a smell that seems toxic to some species, specifically Rainbow boas.
I prefer a mix of potting soil and moss. Paper is excellent but doesn't look great.

Hi S4A

What ratio of potting soil to moss do you use, do you mix the two or put layer of one and then the other?

Cheers,
Marc

@BRB, I prefer not to use it for ATBs. It seems to affect their skin.
@stretch... I just mix it!
