I don't recall where I heard the name "Angry Ball", but I'm pretty sure that's what they call it.

Can't say I have heard that term 'angryball' but I have seen them pics. Second generation angloballs look nice and if you are a sceptic of hybrids and need inspiration into changing your mind , do go and check out the price for them on crystal palace reptiles !

That is crazy !!! ( meant in a good way... )

Love the colour of the eyes.

That is definitely something I would spend money on.

What a waste of an Angolan in my opinion. Not cool or pretty at all.

You have to look at the bigger picture DK . If you were to create this hybrid by using a female angolan then i will totally agree with you that it would be a waste . However , by pairing a male angolan to a female royal and getting £1000 sterling per hatchling , kind of swings me to the view that it may certainly be benifitial indeed . I have yet to try this pairing as i dont want to create any hybrids personaly but it is something i would consider in the future once i have bred my angolans .

If you were shown that picture without a name to it indicating it was a hybridisation one would assume you'd state differently.

I also ( like stated before ) am not a big fan of hybridisation, but c'mon...

If this is just one of the possibles, Imagine what you could get if you play around a bit...

Piebald Axanthic Angolan Royal....

Super Pastel Angolan Mojave...

Zebra Angolan...

Crazy, just crazy...

For interest sake, what would the legalities be like to keep this hybrid?

Would CITES paperwork be needed because there is some Angolan blood in the mix or does the CITES status get dropped as soon as the animal is not pure?

If paperwork is not needed for the hybrid, that can be a bit of a loop hole. Imagine having proof that your Angolan had 1% Ball blood and thus not needing paperwork.

Yeah both species are on CITES (P. anchietae and P. regius are both CITES II) so that is not an issue. In the case of CITES I animals if they have any other genes in them is irrelevant and they are regarded as CITES I even if they are cross bred with another animal which is not considered endangered.

Both are considered exotic so that would depend on whether exotic snakes require a permit where you live.

Wow, I was under the impression that Angolans are CITES I.

Thanx for the good answer BV.

Does SA as a country have specific laws regarding Angolans or why aren't more guys keeping them?

The price of Angolans is the reason that more locals do not keep them. They are no more protected than Boa constrictors, Burmese pythons or Ball pythons.

indeed both are listed as cities 2 but for some odd reason , we required to keep certificates of origin for our angolans so that the animals bloodline can be traced back to the parents from whence they came . These documents are not issued for the likes of royals . If i am not mistaken , the angolan certificate of origin (proof they are captive bred and not wild caught imports) require information dating back to adults that have been microchipped and certificated as legally being in the country where they are being bred . I will double check my permits if i get time before i fly but i am sure they do require a tracable microchip number whereas royals do not . As i understand , we dont require import permits in the uk but when we export , we have to apply for export permits which include cities documentation . I dont see why we have to keep the certs of origin for the angolans if they are in the same catagory as royals ? either way , i dont recon anyone will purchase an angolan without this tracable record . I have spoken via email to defra over here in the uk with regards permits for the angolans should i breed them and thay have replied to say that they dont issue permits for them unlike the likes of my jamaicans which have to permited .

Hi Everyone

Has anyone imported Angolans into South Africa? Has anyone ever tried to get permits for them?

Regards
