Amphibian population declines have troubled scientists in recent decades and the need to study and understand frogs is more important today than ever before. A Complete Guide to Frogs of Southern Africa offers the most authoritative and comprehensive treatment of frogs of the region ever produced.

Aquatic and terrestrial, predator and prey, with porous skins and shell-less eggs, frogs are critically sensitive indicators of the state of our environmental health. A Complete Guide to Frogs of Southern Africa covers all aspects of both frog and tadpole biology and behaviour; each frog and toad species (and their tadpole stage) is fully described, along with conservation status, calls, habitat and habits.

Large, beautiful images and detailed keys - as well as quick ‘Key ID points’ panels - aid identification. Call sonograms and a CD containing most southern African frog calls are included.

Louis du Preez is a professor of Zoology at the North-West University, South Africa, where he heads the African Amphibian Conservation research group. His research interest lies with frogs and their parasites, subjects on which he publishes regularly.

Vincent Carruthers is a well-known environmentalist, who has written and contributed to a range of highly regarded publications, including Frogs & Frogging (Struik Publishers).

Did you know that due to the global amphibian population decline, the International Union for Conservation of Nature and the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums, proclaimed 2008 The Year of the Frog?!

A Complete Guide to the Frogs of Southern Africa by Louis du Preez & Vincent Carruthers is available at all good bookstores nationwide or http://www.kalahari.net at a recommended retail price of R320.00 (including VAT) ISBN 9781770074460

I have a hardcover version of this amazing book and cant put it down. So many taxonomic changes and beautifully illustrated. I didn't know there were 3 types of rubber frog!
