Amphibian ID

Postby Sfourie » Tue Apr 02, 2013 8:22 pm

Hi all

I need an ID confirmation for this frog. It was found in Nelspruit in an abandoned building site. It was about 2 – 2.5cm long. I believe it may be a Natal sand frog (Tomopterna natalensis). If it is it would be the first time that I have observed this color variation in Nelspruit. Thus far all the Natal sand frogs that I have come across had a reddish back.

A Shangaan legend states that any man resting or sleeping in the shade of a baobab will become eccentric and forever be enslaved by Africa and its wilderness, guess it's too late for me.

I reckon you are right about it being T. natalensis.

They can be variable and I'm sure that colour variations are not region specific.
