What's this Snake?

What's this Snake?

Postby Steve Young » Tue Feb 18, 2014 1:30 pm

Over Christmas on our farm in the Southern Drakensberg (Bushmans Nek Rd) we found this snake skin - can anybody identify what snake it could be? It was on a rocky elevated area, 150m from a Wattle forrest and 100m uphill from a dam.

Identifying a snake from a shed skin, without any scale counts would be a guess at best. If you can get good pictures of the head scales atleast, we may be able to give a more accurate identification.

Olive grass snake - possibly (looking at the shape versus length).

I would suggest that this is likely one of the Psammophis or grass snake species.
