Snake in our house

Hi experts,

We got this snake in our house yesterday evening. We live in Centurion in an estate with a lot of grass/trees.
The snake is dark brown with a white belly. On the picture I can notice some orange colour around the mouth area. It is about 30cm long and as thick as a finger. It can raise itself up but does not flatten like a cobra.
Is it a poisonous snake? Dangerous for kids?

Red lipped herald. It is not dangerous.

It is a red liped herald.

Its is mildly venomous but is not thought to have any danger to a grown man. It might affect children. They will not bite unless you provoke it.

I would suggest sweeping it into a bin and relocating it a bit away from where it was found in suitable habitat. They eat frogs and toads so near a stream would be ideal.

It doesn't not have the ability to kill anyone unless they have an allergic reaction to venom.

These snakes ARE not dangerous! They are often kept as pets and their venom has virtually no effect on man. Please don't worry about these snakes!

Hi,

Thanks a lot for the information. Very useful and a relief it is not very poisonous. We have a lot of small frogs in the garden ... maybe the explanation for sneaking into our house.
I did put the snake back into the pasture.
