The first shieldnose I ever saw in the wild was in the Kruger park. We were at school with a guy who's dad was a ranger and we were taken on a drive in an open landie during a school outing that had been arranged. On the one drive (off the tourist tracks) everyone got excited because some bird of prey had just landed and was attacking something on the ground in front of us. Dave Morgan (Ex TSP) and I saw this and jumped off the vehicle chasing the bird off. The bird lovers were all upset because they could not photograph the bird (I think it was a Gymnogene) and Dave and I were all excited because the shieldnose was saved and we watched it scurry into the bushes on the side of the road and burrow into the ground. We were in serious trouble for jumping off the vehicle etc etc but neither of us gave a damn.
It is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.
Those who are afraid to ask are ashamed of learning.
