Do you know where in Nelspruit this was?
At the stream behind my house the habitat is almost identical to that in the picture and P. hoplogaster is quite common but I've never seen P. natalensis here, Only one huge one in the botanical gardens.

I hear what you guys are saying. But then going back to one of my other comments, doesn't this snake look longer than a meter? Both suspected species throughout this post don't get over a meter long according to the literature...

BTW -> http://www.venomstreet.com/images/Past% ... Mamba2.JPG

I don't see how we can rule out a Green Mamba given the picture quality. Maybe that's just due to my inexperience.

Eastern Green Snake (Philothamnus natalensis occidentalis) http://depositphotos.com/1995195/stock- ... snake.html

Green Water Snake (Philothamnus hoplogaster) http://www.biodiversityexplorer.org/rep ... gaster.htm

I consider this a better candidate than the EGS simply because of the head shape. Still it only gets approx. 60cm long...

Given those 3 pictures and the resemblance to the OP's pictures I'll just have to beg to differ on the Green Mamba and leave it there. Maybe the OP could find out how long the snake was approximately? It's hard to judge just from pictures.

Edit - Nevermind I retract all that. Just looked at the pictures of it on the bridge and that thing looks tiny... I'll vote on the Green Water Snake...

IMO the snake seems alot bigger than it is... If you compare it to the size of the dead leaves in any case.
