2013 Weekend

2013 Weekend

Postby Mitton » Tue Nov 05, 2013 11:46 am

This past weekend was again time for our annual herping long weekend. This year we ended up camping at a resort near Hoedspruit.

We had a great time and again quite a few new species for a few of us. We ended up with 18 snake species of which only 3 or 4 were DOR, quite a few lizard species and many frogs.

It was again time spent with a bunch of great people and was loads of fun, thanks to everyone who joined.

Someone else will update a complete list of what we found.

Here are a few pics I took, some just with my phone.

2013 Weekend

Postby Westley Price » Tue Nov 05, 2013 2:31 pm

Wow guys, every year it seems to be getting harder to top the previous year, but yet you still seem to do it.

Some epic finds there, especially the Black File.

Your Spotted Gecko looks like a Lygodactylus of sorts.

The Pangolin is also special. Was it in captivity or in the wild.

Thanx for the pics!

Thanks Westley.

The Pangolin was the highlight of the weekend.
It was wild, Quinten found it while we were herping. Such an amazing experience sitting with this awesome animal walking in front of you, got some nice video as well.

Looks like you guys had an awesome trip with some great finds. Makes me miss living in Hoedspruit. You also were lucky enough to find the only scaled non reptile in the bushveld. Actually the only time I have found a pangolin was also while hunting for snakes in Hoedspruit.

Impressive species Eugene!

Some cracking shots in that mix too!

I agree with Wes that's a Lygodactlys sp
The frog is indeed Pyxicephalus edulis.

An epic long weekend with awesome field herping, great finds and good friends! This annual herping trip has become such an institution with us that we already started planning the next one whilst we were in Hoedspruit :) Great pics Eugene, I really need to invest in a macro lens, makes a huge difference!
