Burmballs...

Interspecies breeding and 2 headed snakes are the type of thing that would be discussed here. We are aware that these are controversial issues and some people feel strongly about their opinions on them. Please respect each other's views and keep discussions amicable.

Here's a picture of an Albino Burmball produced at Crystal Palace Reptiles. Quite impressive and I like the bold yellow colour.

Totally against my views - but pretty none the less. Are these hybrids able to breed? if so i hope there are serious laws in place to prohibit them from interfearing with wild snakes should they escape?

Not looking for bun or handbag fight just curious.

Ever heard the term hybrid vigour? ;) I am sure that must have come from snake hybrids coz they (apparently) breed prolifically.

To be honest, I dont see the difference between an exotic escaping or a hybrid escaping. It's would have the same negative effects with either, except if the hybrid mix contains an indigenous species of course.

But a Burmball escaping and a normal Burm escaping are equally bad.

Not really. The retic x burmese are not prolific breeders and the retic x rock python also does not do well. The Burmese x rock pythons also have their fair share of problems. The carpondros do not seem to breed that well either.

I think in closely related species it will create hybrid vigour but not with species which are fairly far removed from each other.

Nope you cannot neuter a snake easily. The costs would be rather excessive.

Colubrid hybrids tend to show this hybrid vigour quite well from what I have read.

Producing first generation colubrid hybrids can be tricky, but mating a hybrid to a hybrid or hybrid to pure snake is easily achieved.

A lot of folk believe that the offspring are mules and therefore cannot breed, but some actually can breed quite successfully.
