These babies were captive bred in the Eastern Cape, extremely dark for our range, i have had and bred them in varrying degrees of green, but these are some of the darkest babies i've seen...njoy

Ja, that is very nice. I don't think I've seen them that black, but now I understand why they were refereed to as Black House Snakes in the old days.

Even though you had a few mishaps this year, I think overall you had a massive success.

Snake kid, this is not a morph, but rather just a very dark Olive House Snake. Naturally occurring.

Oh... My... Soul... They are BEAUTIFUL!

Are you selling these? or are they going into breeding to make more black babies?

Che: they were not bred by me, a mate of mine bred these, so pics of parents i wont have but can possibly get. I have purchased the whole clutch to do some future projects with them. I will however from time to time up date pics and their colours changes

Wes: Thanks Wes, yes we did produce some nice stuff this year, and i suppose we tend to concentrate more on our failures than successes, but 2011 is dead and burried, let's make 2012 count.....

Snake Kid: as Wes has pointed out, Olives occur in different ranges with different degrees of greens down to blacks, what intrigues me is the fact that these are pitch black, let's see what happens from here. Colours of reptiles evolve to blend into there locality is refered to as Geographic Orientation and is not a man made morph or mutation.

I am thankfull to have a number of babies from this clutch to work with..we do not want to breed different locality olives with each other but rather keep bloodlines clean and true to their locality.

Very nice Deon.

They look identical to the KZN Olives we get here i photographed a pitch black hatchling like these some time ago.
But i later found out the snake changed colour considerable to the normal KZN phase a more slate grey colour interesting to see how yours colour up.

You will have to change the scientific name now too. They are grouped with the water snakes (apparently). I still dont feel right about it but what the hell do I know.

We sometimes get jet black ones up this way in the same localities as the green ones. They have black bellies and we get green ones with black bellies and black ones with light bellies. These are only babies though and all the adults we find seem to be dark green. Hopefully these are different.

I know an albino of these was found many years ago in the Cape so there is still hope for other true morphs.
