Failed again...C.mossambicus

Postby Eyelash » Thu Jan 07, 2010 1:07 pm

Earlier this year I posted pics of my one female that died giving birth(6babies)...Well I bred them again and the babies all died about 3hours after birth...?Here are pics of 2 from the one female...Why do these babies die so easilly ?One thing that I noticed is that the females tend to give birth close to or even in the waterbowls ?
Still alive...

My condolences, I know absolutely nothing about these at all.
I would like to suggest that as soon as possible after birth you get them onto some warmth, this is just a thought.

Eyelash, I presume these guys are quite a montane species. I would provide the babies with LOTS of rock cracks etc, and I would keep them cool instead.. Well atleast try it.. My reason being, that in there area now, it often rains and is cool.. Also, deep in the rock crevices it is also very cool.
The best things come to those who flip rocks.

Thanks guy's...I am def. going to try the cool idea seeing that they come from Gorongosa(if my spelling is correct)...It is just weird because for some reason the babies always die about 3hours after birth and these that do make it only live for about a month and then turn and die ?...Has anyone else bred them before that managed to get the babies growing and doing well ?

These are a species found in open grass like our sungazers.

I would look at a more varied diet and supplement vitamins and calcium as well. I know someone who had numerous babies and they did well but they did get very hot every day (38 degrees) so this could be a factor? They were given burrows to go down when it got too hot for them.
