Plumed Basilisk egg cutting and surprize.

Yesterday I had one of my Plumed Basilisk eggs sweating so it was close to hatching. I have lost one before as it couldn't get out of the egg so I decided to cut the egg. This is becoming a habit for me lately.LOL

Well this was the result. I though it was fairly motionless until it turned its head and looked at me. If it were bigger i would have been scared.LOL They like little dino's.


This little one soon after jump out the egg to make a run for it. He had some left over umbilical but that has fallen off this morning nicely.

I went to check how the other 2 eggs were doing as they started sweating last night and I found one pipping and the other with two babies. So I have twins!

They are running around like little mad things now!

These are just such cool lizards. My adults jump out the cage and take food before I can offer it and run back in. More for display than anything but my male lets me handle him a bit.

Well done Bjorn, they are very cute (although I hate that word fro reptiles, haha).

I can't imagine that these are bred too often locally.

Congratulations Bjorn! Those are such nice lizards, are they difficult to keep? I assume they need quite a large enclosure?

They are fairly easy to keep. Their main requirements are UVB/UVA and 70-80% humidity. I just mist them once a day if that but they have a large water bowl and the peat gives of humidity over time. Their cage is 900x500x1200 and they doing very well. I am going to be making them a larger home one of these days.

This was their second clutch and the third is incubating now. The first babies are turning into beasts and will need to find new homes.They breed very well so there should be more on the market but I don't think they getting the recognition they deserve. I have seen some at the expos.

the parents are really awesome looking - I wish I had the space to keep a few species of lizard.
