Very cool observation!
Centipedes scare the living daylights out of me. As a child growing up in a very rural part of the country, one of our past times was digging a hole in the sand and having animals battles (cruel, I know, but we are all weird as kids).
Every single animals we paired with a centipede lost. Scorpions, large spiders, etc
One day we tried a large Chondrodactylus bibronii. If you have been bitten by this species, you would know why we though the centipede had finally met it's match. Heck, within 5 minutes the centipede was chomping down on a semi-dead gecko, eating the softer flesh first.
Anyway, what puzzles me about the story above is why would the centipede die after making it almost all the way out?
