Vibrating day gecko??? Is it MBD? Plz help

Postby Brennanm » Tue Jun 18, 2013 8:17 pm

Hey guys, i was feeding my day geckos today and i saw the bigger one was vibrating. Not just shaking his head but proberly vibrating. Mainly in his feet. He has refused food for 2 days come to think of it. They do have a uvb during the day and i dust their food with calcium 3 times a week. I have recently started giving them organic mango baby food. Would this be a problem? I have been searching on the net for some answers but there is not much info on shaking day geckos. I looked in my crestie book and the only thing i could find was that sometimes cresties shake as a result of MBD. I can take a vid of him if anyone wants to see what it looks like. Please can someone help me and give me some advice on how i can help him. I really dont want to loose this beautiful creature

Could be because of an acalcinsis.

Wich kind of Gecko is it and which lamp do you use or UVB? I hav seen that most uf you use Compact-Lamps This is not enough. Here you would be "killed" for just using only this as UV-source.
Hope you understand my english.

Hey , Im not too sure what you mean by compact lamp.....but i have the tube-type UVB above their tank. Think its a 5.0.

What is acalcinsis and how does it happen.

......and yes i can understand you :).......

Day Geckos need more UV-B. I don´t know if you can buy better lammps in SA. Her in Europe we use Spots like Solar Raptor ore Bright Sun. Maybe you can buy somethng like this: http://www.reptileuv.com/megaray-sb-100 ... b-lamp.php

Your Gecko need Calcium for the cetral nervous system. He only can use the calcium he get whith his food, whith help of enough UV-B.
Hope you understand my english.

How far away is the UVB from the gecko as UVB is greatly diminished by distance.

Maybe he's housing two males together and it was a territorial display or a sign of aggression. I have seen some geckos and lizards 'vibrate' to show intruding reptiles it is his/her property.

I think Lizardlover might be right if it is standing up high to make itself look bigger it could very well be a dominace factor. Try seperate them for a week or two if your housing them together and see if there are any improvements.

One thing I always avoid with 4-legged reptiles, is to never house males together, especially when there is a female involved.
