My Bitis caudalis Female - Locality please? (pics)

Hi All,

As some of you are aware I am looking for a male caudalis to pair up with this female. I am not sure of locality though. Do any of you have an idea so that I can ask for a more accurate locality?

I hear color isn't an accurate way of determining locality?

Here are three pics of the same snake. Please excuse the quality as I used my Black berry and my girl friends Mik and Druk.

Hi Quintin. What a beautiful snake! In my opinion that looks like Northern Cape caudalis, but my opinion is by no means correct. I am sure some more experienced people will give you the right answer. I must say what a stunning caudalis, a really pretty animal.

Hi Quintin, mgiddings is correct. That is probably a Northern Cape variety. Bright orange is a tell-tale sign. Karoo caudalis tend to be more grey brown.

It is possible to get orange-ish ones from Northern Province but these usually have bolder, outlined markings.

Quintin im sure you would be able to source one from KZN?
Im sure the guys at Creatures and Critters have a few which the breed seen a few babies around although i understand you are looking for an adult perhaps give them a shout?

Someone told me that they work with Limpopo locality though. Will find out from them!

They do work with those, but perhaps they would also be able to assist you in finding someone who has.

I wanted to say this earlier but I declined since I didnt want to seem like a wisea@@.
It has no blue in it thus not typical Northern Cape like those around Springbok.
Lower down towards Upington.
