Swakopmund.........

Postby Microlepidotus » Sun Dec 05, 2010 9:31 pm

Hi all, its been awhile since I've been herping as I had school and exams but its holiday now !

I would love some advice on herping in the brutal desert of Namibia, Swakopmund.
I have been to Namibia, but not to the pure, sandy desert region.
I have never herped in a desert area so i am not familiar with everything.
I need expert advice on what time, where, places etc.

Thank you all.

Hey

I also live in Swakop and I am currently in Swakop. I've done a lot of research on what our government allows and what not. To summarize, if are caught with ANY snake in your posession, you will be fined or even worse. They do not allow any herping in the region and even permitted operators are not allowed to pick up any wild live (snakes, insects, chameleons etc.) and if you do, you can get in big trouble! Sorry, but I am not trying to burst your bubble, but try doing herping on someones farm or on private property, but please, don't test the government, they have a zero tollerance for people who ignore the rules. This is quite sorry, because we have the most beautifull snakes in the region! And the worst thing is that any person have more of a right to kill a snake, than you picking it up!! Contact Stuart at the Snakepark if you need more info, or Tommy at Desert tours. But please be carefull, one wouldn't want to end up in jail! Good luck and enjoy!
