Bitis cornuta

The males are 40cm and 43cm and the female around 60cm. All take live or dead prey.

Absolutely stunning animals.....love them ! :cool: I wouldn't dare to say something against your setup ......hehe lol :lol:

It's cool, can't wait until my springbok animals are as big as yours.....but have to wait for that at least 3-4 years or so :oops: But hey, it's also cool to see them grow at home.

Yes I'm very happy with them. They doing so well.

I also like to raise my snakes from young, in fact I much prefer that. The wait for breeding is tough but the joy of watching the baby grow to that size is awesome.

Absolute amazing animals....love them. When I see them, I would definitely love to get some more speciemens of that local morph, but this is not that easy in snowy Switzerland ;)

Will post some pics of my babies, if it is allowed, later that day...

Marco - I tried the method of injecting prey with water before feeding. Works quite well. I only filled up 1ml but in a small mouse that's a lot of water.

Was the first time I'd given them dead prey so it was nice to know I had the option.

That's good news.....I am very sure you will see that your snakes feel better with the time, as soon as you start to feed mice mice ''with some extra water'' ;) From my experience it makes a very very big differencem espacially with savannah, desert and/or karoo species.

Today my 1.1 Bitis cornuta (Springbok) startet to feed on their own, they accepted their first pinky a few minutes ago, after some weeks of being force feed using the stomach tube.....as you can see, it works, it's safe and also extremely important, I have never had any additional losses since I use this method.

Today's a good day... :cool:

Very nice. Its great to see these methods doing their job. That's fantastic.
When you received them were they big enough to eat a pinky or not? Were they just being fussy?

They where probably big enough, but are cb'06 from SA - so the tripp from there to europe was probably a little bit too much for them :roll:

So I have had to push them :cool: But now everything's fine......and I am very happy that both are eating and growing.

Thanks for the compliments ;) but don't forget mines are babies, they will change their coloration within the next 1-2 years. So they can get very very ugly, or they can become even more colorful - we will se what happens. But usually the change not too much, think and hope they still will be real beauties even in 2 years or so........but let's wait and see :cool:
