Baby Snouted Cobra

Postby Smeegle » Mon Jan 31, 2011 9:49 am

Hi Everyone,

Here are some pics of my new little baby that I got from Craig last week.

This little guy is super fast and wouldn't co-operate well with the camera, so after taking like 50 pics, these are the only semi-decent ones we got.

Thanks for looking!

Any updates on this guy? I am interested to know how fast these guys grow in captivity.

Thanks,
Jeff

Hi Jeff,

The cobra is doing really well and has probably gained 50% in length in just under a year. Quite nervous at first, he has really settled down well and feeds regularly, but only seems interested in frogs although he has taken the odd thawed mouse.

He has only recently started feeding again after a period of inactivity for 2 or 3 months. I'll see if I can rope my father-in-law into taking some more pics this weekend, should be interesting for comparison.

Cheers,
Dennis

Actually, just had a look at the photo's here and I'm sure the cobra had doubled in length!

They grow very quickly at that age.
Dont know if any one has noticed this and it will be quite interesting to do some research on this, but I hav noticed my snouty grows allot quicker on frogs than mice.
Might just have to get tow snouties of same age and prove my theory. Have one on frogs and the other on mice...
Very nice animal Smeegle.

Very nice they sound as though they have quite a fast growth rate, interesting to note that he went through a period of inactivity. I noticed this to with my Naja naja who stopped feeding for about a month when we had that cold snap but they have since started eating again.

Thanks,
Jeff

Yeah, and heating the cage doesn't seem to make a difference either. Apparently they have a natural Biorhythm that tells them when to stop and start feeding. I guess it's the same thing that brings frog out of hibernation etc.
