Got a call from a buddy up the road 2 days ago informing me that there is a herald in his landlords yard hiding in between the pillar of the basin and the wall. I went over and asked him to point me in the direction of the snake. "Its there behind that bottle underneath the sink" he says. I remove the bottle (by hand ) and just behind it sat the smallest black mamba I have ever seen. It couldn't have been more than 50cm in length, clearly a hatchling. Immediately the heart BPM increased.
I gave Byron a call and he said he is confident that I could tackle the little guy on my own. I took a deep bucket and placed some crumpled up newspaper at the bottom. Gently tonged the little guy and placed him in the bucket and he went right under the paper without too much of a fight. I am just glad that nobody was bitten by this snake as there were kids and pets just running around in close proximity to the snake when I got there. This is the second baby mamba found this week in the area so I am guessing a clutch has hatched somewhere close.
And who said black mamba's are not cute.
Unfortunately not cuddly though.
The release, was not easy trying to get decent pictures.
