Well done BV. Im glad it did not turn out as bad as everyone expected it to.

Thank you Arno and all others that helped and donated. It seems we did get off lightly thanks to your work.

Which official ‘conservation’ authority organized this meet and was this supposed to be public participation?

No, it was not for public participation. The public participation will be held at a later stage.

@MacAdder - Arno and company were there to try and insure that we (the reptile community) do not get railroaded by politicians! Fortunitly it turned out that they were willing to listen and understand ;)

We are all very, very grateful and thankful you were there. Thanks again to you and all that were in your corner.

There was a workshop held in Kirstenbosch regards alien invasive species. If this was not for the public then my question still remains unanswered.

The Department of Environmental affairs and Agriculture arranged the workshop. The public were invited to previous consultations and were asked to give input after the initial publication in the government gazette. DEA then looked at who all had sent in comments and on the basis of that the South African Biodiversity Institute was tasked to put together experts in the reptile field to come up with the final listings which are then forwarded to the minister for final approval before publication.

Due to the fact that so few people came up with reasonable scientific arguments for or against any given species only the people eventually involved in the workshop were invited. I was not there as a member of the public but as a representative of the SA pet traders as well as the THA.

The opportunity for public consultation and participation passed many months ago. See the beginning of this thread for cut-off dates. There were two opportunities to make comment and if nobody used that opportunity then that is too bad as government has met the constiutional legal demands to now be able to pass the law.

"Boelens Python LOL? Someone's brain is good for nothing but bait."

Has anyone actually imported any of these to SA?

JaneDoe it is precisely because they have been imported that KZn had put them on their list. We did manage to dissuade them after lots of giggles because obviously they are clueless about the finer points of herpetology.
