Mamba bite......

Postby BOOGY » Sat Dec 26, 2009 7:27 pm

Im not trying to smear his name in the mud. But thought it interesting to know. Read in our local newspaper on 18 December than Neels Botmas mamba "swartbek" has bitten him. He reports that it was handled to much that day and it wwarned him 5 times. He persisted to return it to its cage and got bitten. Will try and post the whole snippit tomorrow.
Medical assitance was closeby and he is fine again.

This is the only time I would say someone deserved it. This is at least his second mamba bite.

Is that the guy from the Nelspruit/Burgersfort area? My uncle told me of a guy that got bit there by his "tame" mamba. Apparently he was busy doing an demonstration and drank water out of the same bowl as the snake?! The reason help was close at hand was because medics were there to show how to treat a snakebite. Don't know if its the same guy, but what I do know is that the guy is irresponsible showing stunts to like this to school children! All of us know that kids won't listen if they have seen someone else do it! I'm not to sure if this guy though, so I speak under correction!

Groenslang yes its the same guy. Takes the snake to bikers rallies etc. Not exactly a shining example of handling skills. It is his only claim to fame and income so I suppose he will continue.

Yeah, made the pretoria news front page. The picture on the page is him with his legged bandaged and a snouted cobra being free handled by him at the same time. Think about how many people will see that and think that the cobras can free handled.

What tjops! In the long run it is guys like these that do serious damage to the name of reptile keepers! Kids are going to see these stunts and think it will be safe for them to do it aswell. I shudder at the thought of an 11 year old trying to handle a mamba! What is more is that they mislead amature keepers into thinking that keeping highly venomous snakes is not that dangerous and can be done without the right training. I'm sorry, but I do not want to be associated to people like these!
