Thanks swazi. If I had known you guys wanted clothing to donate I had an entire bin bag of clothes but will make a plan next time.

Her leg is looking so much better.

Dr Bush's doctors helped show the local doctors and all interested parties how to intubate and they could practice. This is Zamo's mom learning how to intubate for the very first time.

The symposium was very informative and educational for me and surely benefited many folks. It was nice to see several rural doctors and nurses in the audience.

It was a great relax for me and I enjoyed meeting up with old friends and finally seeing the faces of names i have known for a while.

Thea & Clifton, I take my hat off to you guys for hosting and successfully organizing this important event.

Ok so here's what my camera saw.

Sugar cane fields with relatively quiet roads running throught them, perfect for roadcruising.
Image

The cane farms have an elaborate irrigation infrastructure with dams that are infested with monitors and crocodiles.
Image

We did some herping among the fields, Johnny found a spitter.
Image

I went with to go see Zamokuhle at her home and how she was doing.

Yes, Nile crocodiles.

No the file snake belongs to Swazi, she caught it on a call out. I really like them.

Just a bit of a reality check. I had the priviledge of listening to Dr Bush and his team on Saturday as they spoke about snakebite and first aid measures. They explained in detail what should be done in terms of CPR and the ABC of airway management. I got a call to one of my sites today where my most senior security officer had a heart attack. He had been with me from the day I started my company and was only 35 years old.

Myself and Netcare 911 paramedics tried for over an hour to revive him but to no avail. Taking the information learned from Saturday gave me the confidence to jump right in as I rotated duties with the paramedics performing CPR. We could not revive him but I know we gave him the best chance of surviving that we possibly could.

If any forum members get the chance to attend a CPR course I would strongly recommend it and remember to live your life to the fullest because you never know which day is going to be your last.

Sorry to hear that JP. I for one would love to do a First Aid course and it's definitely on the books for the near future. I wanted to go ask Dr. Bush's team to show / teach me, but they had been so busy I gave it a miss.

Do not worry about malaria, just use spray - it's really not a problem. Tick bite fever is much more of a problem! If you go into the bush, make sure you are protected.

Thats great to hear. I got malaria in 2008 in India, and it sucked!!!!! It really was bad and thats coming from a person who has had cancer before. It also was a pain in the ass to get rid of as after I took the medication it relasped like 2 months later and I had to go on the medicine again. I have heard that south africa isnt really a bad area for malaria and that compared to the rest of africa that south africans generally have a much lesser chance of getting malaria. But still if I go to kruger I think I will take every single precaution[even if they appear to be way over the top] to not get it again.
