@ Iggy, Yes I make a couple of small holes in the pill bottle lids for the vapours to get out.

@ Rishaad, I have heard that nowadays it is a bit difficult to get Bio Kill. If I can get some I will try to do a two pronged attack on these Devils Children.

Frontline is now difficult to obtain as only vets are allowed to sell the product. Biokill can be purchased at most pet shops, feed companies and maybe even a few retail stores. What I like about Biokill is that it is very mild. It has a very slight odour which is also and indication of it's mildness.

Thanks Buddy.
Watch out Mites, two edged sword coming up.
Can I leave the spray on the snakes after dosing them, or must I wipe it off afterwards?

Dont waste your money on Biokill Roland.

Water is just as effective as Biokill. Put your snakes in a container with water in and the mites will drown.

Frontline is expensive because it works and as Rishaad said is only available from Vets.

JP not all the mites will drown as the ones around the eyes hang in there the longest.

Frontline spray works the best for me when used correctly. Vapona and karbadust help to keep the mites from re-infecting your collection.

I am also not impressed by Biokill.

Up to now I have always used Vapona on its own.
I put the snake into a smaller container overnight with Vapona in it, and release the snake into its cage in the morning, the cage also has Vapona in it.
This procedure kills off the mites on the snake and in the cage.
As stated before, I leave Vapona in the cage for about 6 weeks, this normally takes care of any eggs.

Correct BV, but then you not holding the snakes head under water long enough :smt005

Seriously though I was just making comparison between Biokill and water, intimating that they are virtually the same thing.

It seems like there are 100 ways to skin a cat here.

Everyone has different ways try what you will if that doesn't work move done the "proverbial" list.

Fooble,

On a day like today when stories like this break you talk about skinning cats.

Okay guys please follow the correct method when using frontline. This has been discussed on the forum numerous times. Today somebody took frontline and just spayed it directly onto the snakes that had mites and closed them in a tub. A while later he found them both basically paralysed. I have little hope that they will pull through.

Extremely valid comment BV. This is why I do not use Frontline etc. , it is so easy to miscalculate and then you have a problem.
I use the methods which prove to work for me.

I spray Frontline directly onto my snakes in their cage or tub (after removing the waterbowl) and have never had any hassles. Bearing in mind I have around 120 snakes from Lavender Albino Retics to Sundeval garters. Maybe the guy should not have kept them in an airtight container. You have to be pretty special to get Frontline wrong :D

JP, I am surprised that you do not recommend Biokill. There are a few Biokill products on the market and the one I used is called Biokill pet care. I don't know how severe the boa's infestation was but I do know that if I carried the snake for just a few minutes these mites were all over my hands. The next morning after treating them there were tons of dead mites in there. With all these options, I guess that Fooble is correct, choose a method that works for you and stick to it.
