Gaboon, help needed!

Postby Tails'nScales » Fri Mar 04, 2011 11:24 pm

Hey,

I'm sitting with a little issue on hand and need some advice.

I've got a young B.rhinoceros female, she had a slight mite problem a while ago that was treated successfully, now she's showing signs of dehydration, the skin is very dull in colour and her mouth looks swollen, almost as if she can't close it properly..

What might this be?

Thanks in advance.

hey,

It could be a sign of mouth rot, developed maybe from the low immunity of the mite infestation.
Best thing would be a trip to the vet!

hope all is ok!

I'm gonna be the better man here, Have you hooked her to a water bowl for water? I know its the most simple question when it comes to gabby's but its a start.

Try and "bath" her, in water about 1.5 to 2cm deep not too hot or cold, she will drink there, do this every day.

The swollen mouth thing worries me though, is the tissue in the mouth a very dark red to black?

Serpy, it turned out to be some sort of viral infection, she's on antibiotics and looks much better now. Thanks

What bothers me is that viruses are not affected by antibiotics. I think the vet is just taking a stab in the dark.
