Snake identification

Postby Marlize van Zyl » Mon Nov 11, 2013 4:06 pm

Hello all, this chap was removed from my house in Tokai, Cape Town today. Can anyone ID it for me pls ? Apparently it was not too long, so I would guess around half a metre, judging by the bucket it was transported in.

Hi there!

That looks like an immature mole snake.

Mean, snappy, but totally harmless :)

Nice find and thanks for saving it!
Happiness is a fat mouse and a warm rock!

Dont fly! 4X4! The noble eagle may soar! but a weasel wont get sucked into a jet intake valve...

Some people are like a slinky spring, they make you smile when you push them down a flight of stairs!

Phew ! What t relief, when I saw the patterns I got concerned. Our dogs can be curious and I didn't want to get home to disaster. From now on I'll keep the doors closed during the day so that we don't have escape artists visiting the coolness of the house. Thanks all !

Hi all, since your id I've also been told it could be a olive house snake - I had wondered what it was doing inside a cool house when its warm outside ? Would this be the answer ?

No, it is 100% baby Mole Snake.
Snakes will go into a house when they are searching for shelter or food.
