WHAT IS THIS GIANT?

Postby Drewbot » Fri Jun 24, 2011 3:00 pm

Has anyone seen this photo?
http://www.snopes.com/photos/animals/kingbrown.asp

Claims of it being a King Brown seem wrong.
I would guess it is a Python or a King Cobra, anybody have any ideas?

The caption says it is from Branxton NSW Australia.

Thanks

I'd hazzard a guess and say it's not a Pseudechis australis, but rather a Ophiophagus hannah, the King cobra.
The vegetation in the background doesn't look very Australian to me, I've been to Sydney and those trees just don't sit right with me as being Australian.
The way it's standing up, hood spread, isn't something I'd associate with the Bushmaster, whereas the King cobra, well it's a cobra.
I'm no expert, by any means, so my guess is purely that, a guess.
I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.

This does not sit well, not sure whether it is the lighting or the pose... Montecasino has a model of a king cobra which died at Transvaal snake park and it is set in exactly this pose. Very "fishy" photo.

Here is a link to the ARK facebook site. It was discussed there and someone from where this photo was taken posted the answer.
