Thanks for the reply, the photo was taken when I first got him, I transferred him to a small glass cage and a use coco-nut husk mixed with a little bit of peat moss. Interesting about the paper towel thing never thought it could have any problems as it is the cleanest way of keeping your snakes.

I am in close contact with Louis now so ill give him a call when all else fails. I will post the first feeding when it happens.

Good to hear you finally got some food into him! Males are much more tricky than females (snake ways not people ways). Keep trying every 4-7 days until he starts to gain some weight and then you can increase the feeding intervals.

You would think paper towel would be a good substrate, but unless you use like 20 sheets at a time, it will not hold enough moisture to keep his enclosure humid enough, especially with a heating pad under it.

Hey guys

I recently got my first aboreal viper. purple Mangrove Viper (Black and White Phase). I have found that not much is on the Internet about these beautiful snakes. she is about 2ft now, the guy I got her from was feeding her two fuzzies, but I think she should be eating jumpers as that is what my nearly same size copperhead is eating. Want to know if anyone has any advice on this ?

She should be feeding on mice a little bit thicker than the thickest part of her body. I feed my 45cm female two fuzzies per week, and she sheds & defecates regularly. If you can, rather feed two smaller meals than one big one.

Hey guys I'm new to this forum, so forgive me for any errors.

Just a quick question saw the mangrove and thought you guys could help. I recently bought a 60cm +- purple mangrove viper(black white phase) and was wondering what you guys rate prey size she should be eating. The guy I got her from was feeding her two fuzzies weekly but this doesn't seem adequate. Was wondering if you guys had any advice ?

Will post pics of her when I figure out how to do it :-P

Just interested. Please be very careful, they are quite hectic I hear in the bite department. Judge the size of the meals by how long or how easily it puts down food and what size the lump is when it's in the stomach. If it gobbles it down in a minute and there is no lump, you could probably double that size. If you feed live you may want to consider killing the mice before hand as mice can cause major damage to the snake or the inside of the snakes mouth.

I feed my vipers according to their appearance, I prefer mine well fed but not over weight.

Hey Serpent

Just to let you guys know, she ate a jumper and a small mouse today. Only made a slight bulge in her stomach, so I believe it was perfect! Thanks for the advice

Excellent news! Sounds like you can increase the size of the meal even more next time.
