All together now ... Agh shame.

In a zoo in California, a mother tiger gave birth to a rare set of triplet tiger cubs. Unfortunately, due to complications in the pregnancy, the cubs were born prematurely and due to their tiny size, they died shortly after birth.

The mother tiger after recovering from the delivery, suddenly started to decline in health, although physically she was fine. The veterinarians felt that the loss of her litter had caused the tigress to fall into a depression. The doctors decided that if the tigress could surrogate another mother's cubs, perhaps she would improve.

After checking with many other zoos across the country, the depressing news was that there were no tiger cubs of the right age to introduce to the mourning mother. The veterinarians decided to try something that had never been tried in a zoo environment. Sometimes a mother of one species will take on the care of a different species. The only "orphans" that could be found quickly, were a litter of weanling pigs. The zoo keepers and vets wrapped the piglets in tiger skin and placed the babies around the mother tiger. Would they become cubs or pork chops?

Take a look...you won't believe your eyes!!

Like Seans avatar says dont mess with the pig. I dont want to be the one that has to catch these pigs.

The story is a few years old but nobody can tell me what happened to the pigs. I would love to know how long this lasted.

I think the tigress was just fattening up the little porker's, and had them for dinner when the time was right.:) cute story though.

my dad used to use a similar technique with cows, if one lost a calf and you had an orphan you tied the dead calf's skin to the orphan in order to get the mother to accept the new baby...usually worked like a charm. Didn't know it would work inter-species though!

Umm funny you should say that. My cousin once tried to feed his one snake a mouse. The snake had no interest. He tried another mouse, it ate that. But when he tried the first mouse again he wouldn't eat it. He eventually left the mouse in the tank with the snake. That mouse never got eaten. I didn't believe him till I saw the mouse snuggled up with the snake.....

Ok ok that story is full of mistakes I know. But I thought it would still be interesting to share.
