Tagged by one of my white lips

Well i got nailed worst ever so far last night by a baby white lipped tree viper whilst trying to force feed him. I had him pinned down and he got a small gap and positioned himself and got one fang in. The pain was not to bad initially but that was about 10, by 10:45 my finger was swollen heavily and couldnt bend it. By 1:15 this morn i was kakking. The swelling was marked off at just below my wrist and seemed to stop there. My arm pit is to say way more painfull than my finger and my hand is still quite heavily swollen but ill survive. Worst part is that ive just switched medical aids so no hospital.

I doubt there is much a hospital would have been able to do for you. They would probably have wanted to cut it open to "relieve the swelling" which would have been unnecessary as usual, and would have left you with a big fat hospital bill.

I'm glad you are okay. Be careful next time. Why are you force feeding? They generally take geckos very easily and you should have plenty of those around.

Yup geckos tails they work like a bomb, i feel bad pulling there tails off but i look at it as rent. They seem to be unable to regurge the tails due to the spines aswell which works like a bomb. It was saw but by no means life threatening, is the worst bite ive ever got though.

The underside of my arms damn saw and the snakes still a juvanile i dont even wanna think about how bad a cottonmouth or western bite would be.

Welcome to the a****** club because only a$$holes get bitten by venomous snakes. ( I am the past president of the club by the way)

Yip it hurts like hell. It hurts the gecko a lot less so next time let them make a sacrifice instead of you.

Bear in mind that your next bite could cause an allergic reaction so from now on you have to be far more cautious.

The pain will subside within a few days but the area can feel tender for a week or two.

snake-5. try use reed frogs to get em going. worked well for me... also easy to scent pinks(just rub frogs on pink..)

house geckos have stuff all nutrients in em. Growth is slow. And you can imagine all the goodness in a tail????

Have you tried scenting pinks with the gecko tails??

We had a friend who used to get them eating like that. He could get anything eating in fact!

Day 2 alles much better underarm little saw and swelling subsided nicely, at least i can close my hand now. I really dont wanna think about how bad a western or other snake bite can be, ill give scenting a shot now, it happens and baby snakes are a hang of a lot harder in my opinion to handle instead of large snakes. This bite was by far the worst ive ever had considering the white lipp was only about 14cm long quite scary when you think of how min there venom yield must be.

My advice dont get nailed far far better, i really dont think one whom is in good health would die from a snake bite from a popes esp one thats small please say if i am wrong.

Do SA hospitals even keep antivenom for white lips?
