It's been a while since I posted on this forum, it's just been so busy with the festive season and herpers coming to visit and ....relaxing..
I took Thomas (some of you are collecting DNA for him) up to the Siteki hospital; he wanted to see where some of the bite victims are being treated. There were 3 females, 2 male and 2 children admitted for snakebite. The one child was a tiny little baby who has spent the first 2 months of her life in hospital. She was bitten on the finger by a spitter (as usual) whilst sleeping. The have done a skin graft - the old fashioned grater & meat mallet method - her arm was bandaged to her body. I will go up during bandage changing hour to get some pics.
There was a callout for a mamba the other day. After catching the snake I was approached by a man who had been bitten on the arm by a spitter whilst sleeping. The local clinic only had 4 vials of antivenom (we had given them 10 of the 22 received from this forum) so decided to give him 2 before sending him to the government hospital where they had no antivenom.
During call-out
Took him to the clinic for wound care
