Stiletto Snake Bite -Atractaspis bibroni

I was contacted and shown this today . have been in contact with the owner of the photo
Who was bitten by a Stiletto Snake - Atractaspis bibroni this past Wednesday.
Here on The South Coast (KZN) . This is what the bite looks like , according to the owner of the photo's his forearm and upper arm with "cut to drain the poison"

Ive just been asked by the Photo's owner is there anyone who can provide external input into treating the bite they are wanting second opinions in the treatment.

Fasciotomy due to compartment syndrome for a Stileto bite?! Sounds like some dodgy work there... The arm doesn't even look like its that severely swollen from what I can see in the pic. And draining the venom, lmao. IMO he just messed up his whole arm and made the Doctor smile.

He should have been placed on observation and the swelling should have been monitored. Within 48 hours the extend of necrosis would have been evident. a Fasciotomy is usually not even needed in Puff adder bites,none the less for Stiletto's! There doesn't appear to be a lot of swelling at all, and this might just cause much more problems eg. secondary infections and myonecrosis. Treatment should have been totally systematic, and attention should be given to passing of urine, and kidney and possibly liver function. Not that I'm and expert, but this looks like a big mess up!!!

Swelling extreme enough for a fascioctomy (spelling?) from a stilleto bite, I have never heard of.

The bite on the finger? That is crazy man.

I know stilleto bites are underrated, but this? Way to extreme. I feel sorry for him.

Eish!! I'll refuse payment and try to sue! I doubt the finger was even at risk with proper treatment! At most he might have lost the tip! Joh joh joh, it just hit me, I'm not scared of getting bitten, I'm scared of the treatment!!

I hear an A. microlepidota bite is not a joke and have caused fatalities (If memory serves me) BUT I agree and think the doctor cut prematurely. Sometimes interns panic and react in drastic ways. Atractaspis microlepidota get huge too. I didn't know they were any in SA collections.

These guys can't be serious! Who cut his arm like that? Was the burrowing adder in a combine harvester? And NOW they want a second opinion? Shame, poor guy.

He must really get proper treatment for that mess! If he gets a secondary infection in those gashes he might end up losing the arm! I also feel horrible for him, eish!

I got bitten by a small night adder and the swelling, etc. was much worse than that, just elevated, ice, painkillers, anti this and that pills. This is gross overkill! Was just thinking, isnt it A.bibronii...
