Everyone has at some stage thought about or even kept venomous snakes. Be it an indigenous species or an exotic species, the fact of the matter is, there will always be a risk involved of getting bitten.

We hope to be able to help you with data regarding different types of venom and venomous snake bites. This should assist you, or a friend or relative, to be able to find up to date information regarding treatment in the event you get bitten.

We will include the most commonly kept venomous snakes in South Africa, as well as the not so common snakes which do become available on the market from time to time.

You will be able to share experiences with everyone regarding a bite which you have received, and what steps were followed by the Medical Practitioners.

Please do not use this section to discuss venomous snakes, unless it is relevant, and please no photos unless relevant.

Hope you find this new forum helpful.

Hi
sounds like a great forum.
We are on a farm in Belfast Mpumalanga and in process of developing an estate with about 20 houses.
I would like to start learning about the prevalent snakes in our area and with this knowledge pass it onto other residents - most of which will come from the "City" and would appreciate forewarning and possible care in case of snake bites.
I would guess with the knowledge and being able to take care of a snake bite quickly as time is normally of the essence.
One rascal snake type we have seen is the Rhinkals _some biggies too as there is an abundance of food for them Rats and Mice.
i would like to know as much as possible on this snake and its dangers and snake bite treatments as hospitals and doctors in the area im sure arnt geared up for these eventualities.
