Basilisks 2013

Postby Foxticity » Mon Feb 18, 2013 12:15 pm

This weekend was my first time hatching basilisks.
I bought the pair early last year, brought them home, set them up and left them.
I saw the male doing all his push ups and head movements but never saw him ontop of the female.

We left for the expo in Durbs and when we returned back from the expo on the 20th, I checked in on them as I had to house everything I bought at the expo.
The female was very restless and I knew there was something. In the back was a big pile of substrate.
Long story short, 12 eggs were found and placed in the Incubator. All 12 eggs looked good and the first started hatching on Friday night.

But damn they are super fast and can jump extremely far. As I opened the tub in the incubator a baby jumped out of the incubator onto my mother's shoulder whom was about a meter away from the incubator. I made a video of how the one jumped out of the egg. Unfortantly cant upload videos

They all had their bath and can already run on water. Its really a something to see it...

Best part of all. All the eggs hatched, all the babies are doing great and... she dropped another 11 eggs last week :D but 5 or so dont look to good.

Just wanted to share my expierces with hatching Jesus Lizzards AKA green basilisks.

Thank you for the post. They are very cool and crazy critters. I love watching the male do his head bobbing. I crack a smile every time.

I missed this post.

Congratulations on the hatchlings. They look awesome!

This is probably one of my favourite species to keep in a large, natural, arboreal set-up.

Well done

thanks Westley.

I am busy building a new snake room and decided to build brick cages for my lizzards as well.
I will use one of the smaller cages for the basilisks. Its 1500x1200x1000.
I build it with brick instead of wood as I wana do a natural setup.

My female basilisk looks pretty big right now so might get another clutch..
But then I am gonna split them a while that she can rest.

Just a update on my basilisks.
I decided to keep seven back and raise them up to see how they grown aand form all the crests and hopefully breed with them next year or so.
They eat extremely well and growing like beasts.

Hopefully my big pair should breed again this year.
Currently I have a few Chinese Water dragon eggs cooking which should be hatching this month.
